City of Portsmouth are looking to a bright future.

And a quartet of the club’s youngsters showed they have every reason to be optimistic about the road ahead after recent displays in Southampton.

George Palmer, Billy Cursons, Luke Veal and Regan Farrar all shone when they took part in Golden Ring’s recent show.

The talents took on opposition from Sturminster, Fareham and Gosport respectively in 3x1min rounds.

Coach Tony Hoile said: ‘The club has been growing over the course of the season and we have nearly 20 carded boxers.’

City have also introduced their own Kid Gloves initiative for six to 10-year-olds. For more information contact Hoile on 07774 149338 or visit

Meanwhile, Fareham ABC are hoping for strong support at their show next weekend. They are calling on the area to turn out and give their backing to the club as they go into action against rivals from across the south.

Matt King, Sam Small and Will Nicol will be among those fighting, along with newcomers Rob Buxey and Jonathan Flint.

Clubs from Ramsgate, St Gerards, Chichester, Bournemouth, Ventnor and Rosehill will be travelling to take part.

The show takes place next Saturday at Neville Lovett School.

Doors open for the show at 1pm with boxing starting at 2pm. Tickets cost £10 (adults) and £5 (children).
