Couzens laughed off the suggestion he’d be the reason for a Portsmouth cruiserweight showdown with Kudus not taking place.

And the 31-year-old insisted a city match-up between the pair is what the public are calling for.

The Titchfield scrapper is gearing up for his Southern Area showdown with Wadi Camacho in London on July 16.

That’s after Couzens had publicly chased Kudus for a showdown earlier this year.

Tensions are mounting between the pair, with words being fired back and forth between them.

Couzens is adamant his record shows that he is not a person who runs from fights. And that is also the case as far as Kudus is concerned.

‘I’d fight anyone. Everyone knows that,’ said Couzens.

‘I’ve called out Biola publicly. It will never be my fault. I wanted to box him on this show in Portsmouth next weekend.

‘When I win this title I’m happy to give him a voluntary defence.

‘I’d fight him no matter what – any time. I don’t know what he’s going about.

‘People know it’s not me.

‘I fought Leon Williams and I’m fighting Wadi Camacho. Do you think I’m scared of Biola Kudus?

‘If he’s saying it’s only down to me, it will happen – because I’m happy to fight him whenever he wants.

‘The show in October is fine. I’m not scared of anyone and will fight anyone.

‘Everyone wants it to happen. It’s good for Portsmouth boxing and we’ll both sell a lot of tickets.

‘Why fight journeymen when you can have something which interests the public? There’s beef about this fight and people want to see it happen.’

Couzens knows he will go into his next contest as an outsider for the title at the York Hall.

Camacho brings power to the table, with nine stoppages from 15 wins.

But Couzens showed his own strength with a second-round stoppage over Shane Dragonslayer last time out in November.

The 7-9-2 feels he can hurt any opponent with his shots.

And he is confident he will step in to the ring in prime condition after a lengthy training camp.

Couzens said: ‘We’ve still got two weeks to go and I’m on the weight.

‘It’s been a long 10-week camp, but I’ve trained hard and having two to three sessions a day.

‘I’ve been sparring up at Guildford City with an England heavyweight, Naylor Ball. That’s really helped.

‘It’s going really well. I’m bang at my fight weight already.

‘People in my camp and around me are confident. If I catch him with my shots it’s lights out. It doesn’t matter who it is.

‘I’ve got a lot of respect for Wadi and he’s a good fighter. But I’m going in there really confident and knowing I can do the rounds.

‘It will be an upset, but a lot of people see this as a good fight.

‘I’m going in there looking to cause a surprise.’
