EBONIE JONES’ Italian job became a demolition job as she stormed to the European Championship final.

The Heart of Portsmouth sensation bulldozed her way past home-nation boxer Lucy Garofalo last night in Assisi.

It was another classy display from the 50kg boxer as she delivered yet another unanimous points success.

Jones has now picked up three unanimous points wins and given all of her opponents standing counts on the way to Sunday’s final.

The Charter Academy student was simply too good for Garofalo, despite the Italian showing her strength.

Jones mixed her boxing with going toe-to-toe with her opponent and came out on top on both fronts.

HOP head coach Q Shillingford said: ‘Ebonie was sensational.

‘The Italian was strong and put in on Ebonie.

‘But Ebonie can box as well as fight and her opponent was left bemused.

‘To get a unanimous win in enemy territory was superb.

‘It was a clear win with a standing count in the second. There should have been one in the third, too.

‘The work on improving Ebonie’s strength and power is paying off.

‘She keeps getting better and better.’

Jones is now guaranteed a silver medal, but will attempt to make it a gold in Sunday’s final.

Shillingford praised everyone at his club who has been part of her success.

He said: ‘Ebonie has had top sparring with her team-mates at HOP.

‘There also has to be special thanks to our coach Colin Williams and the work her dad, Chipper, has done with her to get ready.’
