EBONIE JONES is today bidding to secure her semi-final place in the European Championships.
The Heart of Portsmouth ace got off to a winning start at the event in Assisi in Italy.
And it was a demolition job from the 18-year-old as she cruised to a comprehensive points success over Ireland’s Caitlin Sweeney at 50kg.
The Charter Academy student gave four-time Irish champion Sweeney a standing count on the way to her victory.
That means she now has a quarter-final date with German champion Anika Scheurmann ahead of her this afternoon.
Scheurmann was a winner against Hungary’s Alexandra’s Viglasi in her opening bout.
But Heart of Portsmouth head coach Q Shillingford knows his charge is in strong form on England duty.
Shillingford said: ‘It was a great start from Ebonie.
‘To win on every judge’s scorecard against a four-time national champion is decent going.’
