Hallawell's on the way in final bid

London big guns Repton stand in the way of the Team Wiseman boxer, with Adam Mohammed up next for the youngster in Essex tomorrow.

But a thunderous run to the semi-final stage gives the 15-year-old huge confidence going into the bout.

And his club’s impressive record against one of the most powerful amateur outfits in the sport will give him further belief ahead of action.

Hallawell has picked up five wins in quick-fire fashion to make it to this stage of the competition.

And the 54kg talent has impressed along the way with victories against opposition from Stacey, Poseidon, The Ring, Trowbridge and Bushey.

Now it’s Mohammed tomorrow for a place in the national final in Bristol.

Coach Daron Wiseman knows it’s a tough test that lies in wait for Hallawell at this stage.

But he is confident his boxer belongs at the top level.

Wiseman said: ‘Tyler is flying. He’s been boxing non-stop and picking up the wins.

‘Tyler’s gone up a weight this year but is in the finals of these championships every year.

‘So he knows what it’s all about and what he needs to do.

‘It’s a different group that he’s boxing in this time but it’s the same faces you see at this stage.

‘Tyler has great support from his dad, Glen, who is a coach at the club and has taken him everywhere for sparring.

‘Repton are a top club, but we have a good record against them.

‘As a club we are getting stronger and stronger. We have one defeat from 15 bouts this season.

‘It’s a big fight but Tyler will be giving it everything again to make the final. And he’ll have all the support coming up from our club and Leigh Park to do it.’

Gosport pair Amy Cooper and Matteus Berezneki are already assured of their places in the NABC final. Both enjoyed walkovers to the last stage, with Cooper, 16, and Berezneki, 15, both boxing at 75kg.

Gosport coach Darren Blair admitted it was frustrating neither boxer had a bout under their belts yet.

But he was hopeful they would do themselves proud when they get the chance to step into the ring in the final in rare outings for their club.

He said: ‘Amy’s boxing in the final and so is Matteus in Bristol.

‘It’s straight finals and sometimes it’s hard getting them bouts. There’s no-one out there for Amy so it’s just a chance for her.

‘Sometimes it’s hard for them to keep up the willingness, but she wants it so much.

‘Matteus is 6ft 6in and a real awkward boxer. He could be one with a bright future.

‘It’s looking good at the moment.’
