KRISTIAN DRIVER is shooting for more success after clinching county glory.
Having won the under-16 Junior Gentleman Recurve competition at the Hampshire Indoor Championships, the 15 year-old has targeted even more success this year.
In the county contest, Driver managed an impressive score of 544 with 60 hits to come first.
The Talisman Bowmen archer, from Gosport, also shot in the adult competition and finished a respectable 14th place, with a total of 506, against considerably more experienced opponents.
He also finished first in his club’s junior open championships recently, scoring 487 to defeat some of the best young archers in the region.
And Driver was also successful in the team competition there.
The 15 year-old’s next challenge is to win a place in the Hampshire under-18s squad at the selection event on Easter Sunday, before competing in the junior nationals in July.
Having finished eighth in the nationals last year, Driver is confident of going even further this time, and his dad, Ian, believes he can go far.
Ian said: ‘He’s still got progress to make but at his age he’s doing very well.
‘He has put the effort in and has made sacrifices – it’s not easy for him, it’s a big commitment.
‘Kristian places quite a high demand on himself with everything he’s committed to.’
The Gosport talent, who is on the Great Britain Pathway, will hope his strong start to the year continues as he bids to secure a place in the Hampshire team.
Ian added: ‘Kristian won the county championship, so he’s ticked that one off and the next one is the Hampshire trials to try and get in the team.
‘If he does exceptionally well and gets noticed by GB talent scouts, who knows what may happen, but he still has a way to go.’
Talisman Bowmen shoot outdoors at Hunts Pond Road, in Titchfield Common.
During the winter months, the club meets on Wednesday evenings for indoor shooting, at Brookfield School, Fareham.
