Hampshire will have Shahid Afridi at their disposal in the Royal London One-Day Cup, starting with this afternoon’s match at Gloucestershire (2pm).
The Pakistani all-rounder was originally signed to play in the T20 Blast, but he is now available to feature in all of Hampshire’s limited-overs matches this season.
In his first match back at the Ageas Bowl earlier this month, the 36-year-old was named as man of the match as Hampshire beat Kent Spitfires by nine runs.
‘Boom Boom’ hit 21 off of 18 balls and finished with figures of three for 33 as he led the team to their only win so far in the T20 Blast.
Tino Best has also been named in the squad for the match against the reigning one-day champions and will be hoping to make his first one-day appearance of the season.
Opener Tom Alsop is in the squad following illness, however Dale Benkenstein’s men will be without Michael Carberry who is missing through injury.
Hampshire will be looking for consecutive wins in the 50-over format, following a five-wicket win over Middlesex last time out, with Liam Dawson top scoring with 68 not out.
They will be looking to take advantage of Gloucestershire’s slow start in the one-day format, having lost all three of their matches so far this season.
It’s a quick turnaround in terms of games for Hampshire, as just 16 hours after their match in Bristol is scheduled to finish, they’ll be taking to the field at the Ageas Bowl to face Surrey, who are also without a one-day win this season.
On Friday, they then welcome Sussex Sharks, hoping to improve on their uncharacteristically poor form in the T20 Blast.
