Durham continued to make steady progress as they reached 289 for four at tea.

Dale Benkenstein looked composed and assured as he moved on to 75 not out with minimal fuss.

While the dangerous Ian Blackwell should have been out shortly before the interval when he hoisted a pull shot straight to Jimmy Adams at deep mid-wicket, only for the umpire to have signalled a no-ball as Sean Ervine overstepped the mark.

Blackwell, who was on 29 at the time, had moved on to 32 not out after his let-off with Dominic Cork’s men in desperate need of breaking a partnership worth 68 runs.
