Hampshire’s must-win County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire got off to a false start today.

Rain saw play called off at 5pm without a ball being bowled.

Relegation-threatened Hampshire, who were set to be captained by Jimmy Adams in the enforced absence of Dominic Cork, are desperate to kickstart their survival bid.

They have yet to net a first-class victory this season and are in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom of the division one table.

Cork was unable to take his place in the starting line-up due to an illness in his family.

He was replaced by Chris Wood, while David Griffiths – as expected – came in for Kabir Ali in the only other change to the side that lost at Sussex last week.
