HAVANT’S Rob Gibson stole the show with a fine 83 to pave the way for a 126-run success over Bashley in the Southern Electric Premier League premier division.
Playing his first match since returning from Durham, where he has played regularly for the MCCU team, Gibson hit one six and 13 fours in a stunning 83, scored off only 68 balls.
When he became the first of five short-leg dismissals pouched by Nick Baker, Havant were 99 for one – with opening partner Pete Hopson (52) batting the entire morning session.
Stuart Ransley (27) and Steven Matthews (23) added important late runs to lift Havant from 202 for eight to 237 all out.
But on a turning track, Richard Hindley’s impressive spell of five for 36 sent the Bashley reply tumbling.
Once the New Forest outfit were reduced to 24 for three, the writing was on the wall as Havant gained the upper hand.
Bashley sank to 111 all out as Chris Morgan (two for 28) and Matthews (one for 19) chipped in.
It ensured Havant got their league campaign back on track after their mauling by Lymington last weekend.
