Hampshire have escaped relegation from County Championship division one on a nailbiting final day of the season.
The Ageas Bowl outfit sealed an eight-wicket success in their clash with Nottinghamshire this morning – with Michael Carberry (84 not out) and Jimmy Adams (70) both passing 50.
The triumph meant a defeat for Sussex at the hands of Yorkshire would see Hampshire leap out of the relegation places at the 11th hour.
And the champions duly delivered, bowling the Hove side out for 208 to win by 100 runs at Headingley.
Hampshire survived by just two points and will therefore play in the top tier of the domestic first-class game again next summer.
