Rain stopped play as Hampshire battled to 211 for three at tea on day one of their friendly with Kent.

Michael Carberry starred for the hosts at the Ageas Bowl, before heavy rain forced an early end to proceedings.

The opening batsman posted an impressive knock of 104 not out, with support arriving in the shape of Lewis McManus (36 not out).

Carberry’s opening partner Tom Alsop failed to get off the mark, with stand-in skipper Will Smith (31) and Adam Wheater (13) also losing their wickets.

The two-day friendly will resume tomorrow at 11am with entry free to all spectators.
