A stunning 129-run opening partnership between Michael Carberry and James Vince helped Hampshire book their place in the CB40 final at Lord’s.

After restricting Sussex Sharks to 219 for eight in today’s semi-final at Hove, the Royals got their reply off to a flying start.

Carberry (68) and Vince (58) blazed 100 off the opening 11 overs.

And after the pair departed, it was left to Jimmy Adams (44 not out) and Simon Katich (47 not out) to guide the visitors to an eight-wicket victory.

Earlier, Luke Wright hit 122 off just 100 balls as the hosts looked likely to set a huge target. Sussex had 159 with nine wickets remaining at one stage.

However, Sean Ervine took three wickets in the 35th over – including that of dangerman Wright - to help rein the Sharks in, and swing the clash in Hampshire’s favour.

And, after Carberry and Vince’s early fireworks, the Royals eased home with seven overs remaining to book a final spot at Lord’s on Saturday, September 15.

The victory also keeps their one-day double dream alive after Hampshire were crowned t20 champions last weekend.
