Rain ruined Hampshire’s hopes of a winning start to the County Championship, as the weather prevented any play on the final day of their division two opener against Leicestershire at the Ageas Bowl.

Jimmy Adams’ side needed just five wickets to secure an innings victory, with the Foxes trailing by 129 runs and the hosts yet to bat again.

But a constant downpour ensured the covers didn’t budge, before the umpires called it a draw just before 3pm.

Adams’ men will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s MCC university match with Loughborough.
