Vipers lose as rain puts dampener on home clash

Hampshire's Caribbean t20 quest got off to an embarrassing start as group B minnows Canada beat them by 23-runs.

The Royals, who lifted the Friends Provident t20 last season, turned in a woeful batting performance as they struck just 106 for eight in reply the Canada's modest 129 for seven.

Benny Howell was one of the only players to come out of the game with any credit, hitting an unbeaten 22 in a lost cause after having a hand in two run outs.

New signing Johann Myburgh made his Hampshire debut. He too struck 22 runs, while also completing a run out and taking a wicket.
