Hampshire have announced the signing of Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal.

The 35-year-old will arrive at the Ageas Bowl for the latter part of the 2013 season, when fellow overseas player George Bailey and Danny Briggs are likely to be involved in the England v Australia t20 international series.

Highly-rated Ajmal’s arrival represents a good piece of business for Hampshire, with the off-spinner taking 24 wickets in only three Tests against England in 2011.

He also enjoyed a profitable spell with Worcestershire last year, where he took 17 wickets in three first class matches and 16 wickets in eight t20 games.

‘I am very pleased to be joining Hampshire to play in the County Championship,’ said Ajmal.

‘I have always enjoyed playing in England and look forward to playing my part in helping Hampshire get promoted.’
