Michael Carberry has been given another opportunity to impress the England selectors after his call-up to the Lions.
The Hampshire batsman has had an indifferent start to the campaign but hit 118 in the recent clash with Loughborough University and then followed that with a fluent 62 in the innings victory over Worcestershire last week.
But the powerful left-hander managed just five runs in his latest outing at Essex as the whole Hampshire side struggled with the bat.
Carberry, who has one Test appearance to his name, will play for the Lions at Leicestershire’s Grace Road in a four-day match against New Zealand starting on May 9.
That will see him miss Hampshire’s Championship division two clash at Gloucestershire, which starts on May 8.
