Giles White has confirmed Hampshire are set to sign Essex wicketkeeper Adam Wheater.

The 23-year-old glovesman has bought out the remaining year of his contract and has been brought in to compete for the position alongside Michael Bates.

Hampshire manager White said: ‘We were interested in Adam and it was agreed that we would sign him if he became available.

‘I understand he has bought himself out with a view to competing for the gloves here.

‘It will strengthen the squad and give us some extra competition.’
