Hampshire captain James Vince saw his side crash out of the NatWest T20 Blast at the semi-final stage to Lancashire Lightning today and admitted: We needed 20 more runs.

Hampshire were bowled out for just 114 on the way to losing a fourth semi-final at Edgbaston in the last five years as they failed to get to grips with the sluggish nature of the pitch.

‘The wicket was slow at the start,’ said Vince.

‘We set out to get 150 or 160, and not even that would have been a winning score in the end.

‘As we lost wickets our target came down, and we never got a big partnership together.

‘On a wicket like that, you’ve got to keep wickets in hand at the end.

‘There were some disappointing shots played, but fair play to Lancashire, they were the better side.’

Vince admitted that he was still confident at the halfway stage of the match, and he added: ‘It’s amazing what you can do with a low score, but we needed 20 more runs.’
