Michael Lumb will play for the Sydney Sixers in Australia’s Big Bash League in January.

The Sixers have confirmed the Hants opener as their first overseas signing for the newly-formatted competition.

Lumb, part of England’s victorious World Twenty20 squad last year, played for Queensland in the state-based tournament last season.

But the 31-year-old will make the move south after completing his new deal on the final day of the signing window.

He said: ‘I really enjoyed my experience in Australia last season, and it will be a pleasure to run out at the SCG as part of a really strong side.

‘It is a superb ground and I can’t wait to get the chance to play there with the Sixers.’

As reported, Lumb – who is out of action with a broken foot – may have played his final game for the Royals after Notts made a 28-day approach to talk to the batsman.
