Hampshire’s leading first-class wicket-taker of 2010 will miss the beginning of the new campaign.
James Tomlinson, who bagged 46 victims last summer, suffered a ‘stress reaction’ in the cuboid bone of his foot on the club’s pre-season trip to the West Indies.
The left-arm swing bowler said: ‘I did it out in Barbados just landing in the footholds. It was a very innocuous injury but I woke up the next day and it was very stiff.
‘I got a scan and I’ve been told to rest for two to three weeks, including 10 days in this boot.
‘It means I’ll miss the first two matches, more than likely, which is a bit of a hammer blow but it is a very long season.’
