Dons' good Chap is man for all occasions

The Dons, who made exactly 200, put on 51 runs for the last two wickets with bowlers Rhidian Chapman (22) and Ian Turner (28) combining to claim the extra batting points.

Chapman then led the charge with the ball, taking four wickets for 16 runs as Fawley were skittled out for a meagre 67.

For new skipper Will Bond, who has now won both of his games at the helm, it was a decent all-round team display, epitomised by Chapman.

He said: ‘We were happy with getting 200 but we only really got up there thanks to our lower order and Indy Chakrabarti (batting at six) who scored 48.

‘We bat right down all the way through and it is nice to know that everyone can chip in with a few runs – especially when your top order doesn’t fire like it can.

‘Rhidian was definitely man of the match – he has been around the first team for a long time now and really showed his experience with both bat and ball.

‘We also fielded and caught well, so I am very happy with where the team is at the moment – hopefully we can carry it on next Saturday.’

In division three, Lee Harrop powered Gosport Borough to a first victory of the season with an impressive unbeaten century in their eight-wicket win over Lymington II.

Opening the batting, Harrop ended the game 119 not out as Borough made light work of the visitors’ score of 193 with Charlie Pennicote falling run one short of his half-century in doing so.

Dale Patternote, three for 29, was the pick of the home side’s bowling attack.

James Scutt (60) and Jon Hudson (51) combined as Waterlooville also registered their first win of the campaign with a four-wicket triumph over Havant II.

Gareth Ransley (57) top scored for the visitors, whose total of 200 for six proved to be in vain at Rowlands Avenue.
