'Curbs better bet than Grant'
Alan Curbishley has been tipped as a better managerial option than Avram Grant – because he knows what is needed to survive a relegation dogfight.
Tony Gale – ex-West Ham defender and Sky Sports pundit – knows Curbishley well from their time together at Upton Park.
And Gale is convinced the former Charlton boss could Pompey out of relegation danger.
Gale said: 'Curbs wouldn't let anyone down.
'In my eyes he would be a better bet than Avram Grant because he has been in relegation battles before and knows what is required.
'I don't think Avram Grant has had any experience of a relegation battle.
'He inherited the team at Chelsea and also inherited a fantastic coach in Steve Clarke that was going for the title.
'At Portsmouth, it's a very different criteria.
'It's nothing against Avram Grant, but Curbs has been in this kind of situation before.
'In an ideal world, he would probably want a nice mid-table side.
'But management jobs at Premier League clubs do not come along very often and sometimes you have to take them when they come up.
'But I think he would have everything to gain from taking over at Pompey.
'He would be seen as a saviour if they started picking up.
'I was shocked when I heard that Paul Hart had been sacked because they looked like they had turned the corner and have been unlucky lately.'
