Paul Ashley won Fareham Wheelers’ first evening time trial of the season on Thursday.

He clocked a time of 13min 40sec for the 10km test.

Ashley, 41, beat fellow Wheelers Andy Smith (14.05) and James Brickell (14.20) into second and third.

The victor was also the first in the veterans’ category, while Brickell took the top under-18 honour.

Caitlin Peters, 14, was the top lady and fastest under-18 girl with her 16.10 effort.

And best on a road bike was 52-year-old Neil Mackley (14.53).

The Wheelers host their Spring Open Time Trial tomorrow, on a 10-mile out-and-back course from Wickham to Portsdown Hill (2.30pm).
