Portchester ace White won the three-year-old category while fellow home favourite Doherty took victory in all four of his races to seal the five-year age group.

Both starlets have now qualified for the championship finals in Manchester.

It was a thrilling round in Gosport yesterday, with around 70 riders in action.

Gosport BMX chairman Darren Fells said: ‘It was really successful.

‘There were just over 100 riders in the previous round in London, so to pull in 70 at Gosport was really good.

‘These championships and the balance bike sessions we run are crucial for the future of BMX and cycling.’
