i-Team chief eyes bright future after Peters fires national warning

The 14-year-old, who rides for Portsmouth-based i-Team, cruised to glory in her own age group at Thruxton Circuit on Sunday.

Peters clocked a time of 28min 09sec on the 11-mile course.

That saw her come within a whisker of beating national junior 10-mile record holder Henrietta Colborne to the under-18 title.

But Peters’ coach, Guy Watson, was full of praise following the impressive display in torrential rain.

And he insists his charge, who started out with Fareham Wheelers, is on track to make the step up to the club’s junior race team next season.

He said: ‘At only 14, Caitlin has another three years to win a national junior title.

‘She has been training hard all season, including riding with our junior race team.

‘And if she keeps working hard over the winter, she will definitely earn herself a place on next year’s squad.’

Joe Clark, who races for i-Team’s junior squad, clocked a time of 27.51 for 14th place in the under-18 standings as Eugene Cross, of the SSLL Racing Team, took victory (24.24).

Fareham Wheelers talent Vaughan Marris, 15, registered a time of 28.18, while i-Team’s Sam Clark finished in 29.19.

In the senior event – won by ProRace’s Josh Teasdale (23.03), Paul Ashley finished 21st.

The Fareham Wheelers rider stopped the clock in a time of 24.45.

His club-mate, David Dalton, recorded 26.02.

And the Isle of Wight’s Faye Faber was 16th in the women’s race in 28.51.

Emma Lewis, of Adalta, took the title in 26.08.
