McSeveney hails rise of Wheelers women after tour shock

Alex Napier tasted victory in the second round of the Portsdown Time Trial League.

He clocked a time of 56min 15sec on the 22-mile course, hosted by the Hampshire Road Club out of West Stoke Hall.

Napier got the better of team-mate James Mapley (57.19) as Blazing Saddles continued to dominate the club standings in the seven-round series.

Andy Langdown completed the podium places with a time of 58.46 for the hosts, who are second in the team standings.

Dave Dawkins was the top man for Portsmouth North End – finishing fifth in 59.05.

While Andy Smith was the first Fareham Wheelers rider to cross the line – his 1.00.46 just one second quicker than team-mate Paul Morris.

The Wheelers host the first of their Thursday evening time trials tonight.

The fortnightly events are based at the Wickham Community Centre and begin with a 10km showdown.

Riders can sign on from 5.45pm with the first rider starting at 6.30pm.
