Harvey Morcombe is hoping to put on a show for Fareham Wheelers fans at the South Region Road Race Championships.

The 17-year-old will line up in the junior race, which begins with the women’s event in Owslebury at 9.30am tomorrow.

Riders will start at the vollage hall and cover a total of 84km on the circuit which played host to the second stage of the Tour of the Milburys last weekend.

The 134km senior race will then take centre stage on the same hilly course at 1pm.

Morcombe, like club-mate Brendan Drewett, is relaxed about his chances.

But after finishing fifth in the support race at the Tour Series event in Ryde on Thursday, he is determined to give it his best shot.

Morcombe said: ‘Ryde was a massive confidence boost.

‘I feel like I have raced myself into form a little bit this week, with Goodwood on Tuesday night as well, so I’ll see how well I recover.

‘I was suffering straight after but I would like to finish and put on a good show for Fareham.

‘We have got a lot of people coming down to watch.’

Drewett, who excels on the track, is just aiming to continue his road racing development.

‘With a road race, I’m just aiming to finish really,’ said the 17-year-old.

‘I am learning all the time on the road and working hard to improve.’

Andrew Carter, of Portsmouth North End (PNE), is entered for the elite race, while PNE, Wheelers and i-Team all have entries in the junior contest.
