Eldon Arms pulled three points clear at the top of Portsmouth Men’s Winter League division E with a 6-3 triumph over Phoenix Southsea.

Steve Jackson opened proceedings for Phoenix.

But they weren’t in front for long as Eldon’s Sam Damarell, Steve Hartill, Jon Davison and Liam Elliott were all on the mark.

John Lloyd pulled a leg back for Phoenix.

But it was only a brief reprieve with Ian Mitchell firing in a 17-darter and 180 to seal victory for Eldon.

Michael Chandler made it six for Eldon with the next leg before Nick Rizzuto took a consolation for Phoenix.

Newcome Arms A saw off Jolly Taxpayer C with a 5-4 victory in division A.

John Richmond, Anthony Quintavalle and Del Thomson gave Newcome a 3-0 lead, with Thomson notching a 17-dart leg and 180.

A win from Rob White and a 15-darter and 120 finish by Andy Newcombe reduced Taxpayer’s deficit to one set.

An 18-darter by Darren Barnes put Newcome on the brink of victory.

And although Neil Banks won the next set to keep Taxpayer in the match, Darrell Manchip took the penultimate clash to bag the points for Newcome.

Taxpayer’s Kevin Mills scored 180 in winning the last set.

Duke of Devonshire remain in division B’s relegation zone after going down 7-2 to Phoenix North End C.

Phoenix wasted little time in guaranteeing the win courtesy of Gavin Hall, Trevor Cawte, Liam Thomson, Arthur Hawkins and Dean Messinbird, while only John Elverson could notch an early win for Duke.

Kevin Goodall doubled Duke’s tally before Peter Smith and Terry Scullion completed a convincing win for Phoenix

Oyster House B gained vital points in division C’s relegation battle, beating The Royal 6-3 to pull level with them.

Brian Hughes and Paul Lipscombe gave Royal an early lead.

But Brad Shires and Darren Trace restored parity for Oyster.

Ron Waters put Royal back in front but that was all they could muster from the contest.

Andy James, Frank Butcher, Malcolm Smith and Malvin Waters took the plaudits for Oyster as they finished the job in style.

Mermaid pulled level on points with division D’s leaders after a 5-4 triumph against Baffins.

A good start from Baffins saw them go 2-0 up thanks to Piers Howorth and Ken Journeaux.

Ray Passfield, Richard Platt and Arnie La Rouge then hit back to make it 3-2 to Mermaid.

Ian Bates levelled the match for Baffins, before Matthew Bolton was then on hand to edge Mermaid back in front in the contest.

Keith Farbrace took the next leg for Baffins to force a decider and it was Mermaid’s John Holts who held his nerve to settle the clash.

Mason Riou (Mr Pickwick B) threw a 15-dart leg, 101 finish, and a 180 while team-mate Paul Scutt notched a 16-darter.

Jamie Stewart, Bob Hey (both Phoenix North End B), Danny Smith, Jon Bramble and Sam Head (all Admiral Drake B) all threw 18-dart efforts with Bramble checking out on 100.

Stephen Hansford (Druids Arms B) had a 112 game-shot while Laurie Clark (Old House at Home B) and Pete Curtis (Lord Chichester A) had finishes of 109 and 103 respectively.

Pat Reed (Lord Chichester A), Charlie Dunn (Mr Pickwick B), Charlie Jackson (Admiral Drake B) and Jamie Basedon (Raven) all fired in maximums.
