Duke of Devonshire A bagged their first points of the season in division B of the Portsmouth Men’s Winter League.

They recorded a 5-4 victory over Mermaid.

Harry Rogers and Paul Sinnonds gave Duke a 2-1 lead, winning legs either side of Mermaid’s Trevor Bennett.

Mermaid moved ahead through Stuart Benfield and Jason Sidaway but Duke restored their advantage thanks to Kevin Goodall and Bill Bevan.

Gary Hornby kept Mermaid in the match but Duke’s Norman Hollis took the final clash to seal the win.

Admiral Drake A edged a back-and-forth game with Jolly Taxpayer A in division C, emerging as 5-4 winners.

Conrad Butt and Richard Linford both gave Drake early leads.

But each time they were immediately pegged back by Taxpayer’s Stephen Houghton and Robert Houghton respectively.

Drake then moved 4-2 up courtesy of Jim West and Dan Burton.

Tyson Kendall and Kevin Houghton restored parity for Taxpayer, however that was all they could muster as Carl Spratt won the decider for Drake.

George & Dragon A are among division D’s early leaders after they beat Lord Chichester B 6-3.

Dean Charman drew first blood for Chichester but they were soon 4-1 down as Kevin Hayes, Daniel Browne, Malcolm Tilley and Anthony Plummer were all on the mark.

Paul Collins and Jim Stanhope reduced Chichester’s deficit but Mark Pearce and Frank Woodward ensured George took the points.

Marmion Tavern paid the price for being a player short as they went down 5-4 to Stag B in division D.

Marmion took a 3-1 lead with wins from Ian Shrewsbury, Nick Falloun and Sam Martin, while only Dave Smith could muster any early resistance from Stag.

Stag then took control as Tom Jeffrey, Mark Barnes and Mike Barnes pulled them level, before a walkover for Chris Andrews sealed it.

Paul Eldred took a late consolation for Marmion.

Froddington Arms B came from behind to beat Lord Chichester A 5-4 in division A.

Lee O’Donovan started the match well for Froddington with a maximum and 17-dart leg, before Ron Jafkins doubled their lead.

Chichester’s Keith Sault and Terry Dugan squared the match but Shaun O’Donovan put Froddington straight back in front.

Pat Reed hit a 111 game-shot as he put Chichester back on level terms once more.

And Ray Williams then moved them ahead for the first time.

However, Froddington took the remaining sets, with Paul La Roche and Chris Smith winning them the match.

Vic Smith (Mr Pickwick) completed a 12-dart leg with a 140 game-shot, while Sam Head (Admiral Drake B) recorded 15 and 18-darters.

Andy Newcombe (Jolly Taxpayer C) scored 180 in a 15-dart leg.

Ivan Gicquel (Phoenix North End B) checked-out on 120, Daniel Graf (Stag C) hit a 107 game-shot and Richard Morey (Battle of Minden B) and James Brooker (Admiral Drake B) both finished on 100.

Gary Collis (Admiral Drake B) also hit a 120 finish and as well as two 18-darters.

Paul Gibbs (Newcome Arms A), Jon Bramble, Steve Musson, Rob Newland (all Admiral Drake B), Phil Rudder (Mr Pickwick) and Colin McKean (Old House at Home B) all had 18-dart legs, with Newland scoring 180 and Lee Dimond (British Queen) also hit a maximum.
