Newcome Arms A’s Mike Gillet and Dean Jones were crowned pairs’ champions after coming from behind to beat Ricky Williams and Jason Crawley, of Phoenix Lounge, 3-2 in the Portsmouth Men’s Summer League pairs competition.

It was fitting revenge for Gillet who had lost to Williams in the individuals semi-final, a week earlier.

The Phoenix duo stormed to a 2-0 lead, opening proceedings with a 13-dart leg and Williams hit a 110 game-shot in the second.

But Gillet and Jones fought back to 2-2 with a pair of 19-dart legs before taking the final leg of the night to get their hands on the title.

Williams and Crawley had been in scintillating form on their way to the final.

They fired in 15 and 13-dart legs in the quarter-final, with Crawley scoring 180 in each, to beat their team-mates Jamie Stewart and Bob Crawley 2-0.

Stewart and Crawley themselves averaged nearly 90 across the two legs.

Gillet and Jones defeated Phoenix Lounge B’s Colin McKean and John Colbourne in their semi-final.

They had earlier seen off fellow Newcome pair Shane Filleul and Paul Gibbs in the quarters.

Steve Todd and Lee Todd, of Lord Chichester, and Gary Collis and Barry Stevens, of Admiral Drake B, also reached the last eight.
