Phoenix Southsea remained in touch with the promotion contenders in Portsmouth Men’s League division D thanks to a 6-3 victory against Barley Mow.

Rob Pithers, David Tait and Michael Mullvey put Phoenix 3-1 up – with only George Watson providing any early resistance for Mow.

Momentum then moved to Mow with Pete Roberts and Rae Lawson winning to restore parity.

However, that was all they managed as Daniel Cronin, Mel Jackson and Steve Jackson claimed the remaining ties to win the match for Phoenix.

Stag A triumphed over Lord Chichester B 6-3 in their division A clash.

Stag had the edge throughout after Mike Neilson, Stephen Wain, Joe Bridle and Mark Smith powered them into a 4-0 lead – with Bridle hitting a 114 finish.

Paul Haines got Chichester off the mark and John Madgwick Jnr doubled their tally.

But Duncan Cope took the next set to bag the points for Stag.

Chichester took a consolation through Mike Feaver before Andrew Smith added Stag’s sixth.

Newcome Arms B failed to take advantage of a depleted Oyster House B side, going down 5-4 in division B.

Oyster seized the advantage courtesy of Jon McDonald and Chris Cobb Jnr.

But Ron Farmer and Gary Tobitt hit straight back to pull Newcome level.

Once again Oyster took a two-leg lead – with Chris Cobb Snr and Alex Hood on the mark.

Tony Price halved Newcome’s deficit but Ron Albury won the penultimate tie for Oyster to give them an insurmountable lead.

The last leg was awarded to Newcome’s Ron Neale as a walkover.

George & Dragon moved two points clear of division C’s bottom-placed-side, The Royal, after beating them 6-3.

Anthony Plummer and Les Browne put George 2-0 up before Chris Hallett pulled one back for Royal.

George wasted no further time in securing victory as Frank Woodward, Robbie Brooks, Malcolm Tilley and Shane Plummer all notched wins.

Derek Toms and Brian Cohead took late consolations for Royal.

Danny Smith (Admiral Drake B) threw a 15-dart leg and 104 game-shot, while team-mate Gary Collis finished a leg in 16 darts.

Darren Barnes (Newcome Arms A), Ken Dean and Daniel Rickards (both Old House at Home B) all had 17-darters.

And Barry Stevens (Admiral Drake B) and Luke Graf (Froddington Arms A) both recorded 18-dart efforts, with Graf scoring 180.

Craig Pitman (Admiral Drake A) checked out on 101, Jamie Stewart (Phoenix North End B) and Simon Lawrence (Newcome Arms A) both fired in maximums and Paul Simmonds (Duke of Devonshire) scored 160.
