Smith helps Drake top ton charts

PORTSMOUTH Men's League Top-flight champions Admiral Drake B fired in an impressive 554 tons on their way to the winning the league, including 17 maximums.

That’s more than 50 clear of their nearest scoring rivals Jolly Taxpayer C who registered 502 and also had 17 180s.

Drake’s Danny Smith was the biggest individual scorer with 85 tons and one 180, while Taxpayer’s Andy Newcombe was only just behind him with 82 three-figure scores including a maximum.

Darren Barnes, of Newcome Arms A was third with 80 scores of 100 or more and two 180s.

Taxpayer’s Anthony Quintavalle recorded the most maximums with five.

Druids Arms A topped division B’s scoring charts with 170 ton-plusses and two 180s, beating champions Star & Garter into second place – Start had 137 tons and three maximums.

Druids’ Neil Hallett topped the individual rankings with 31 three-figure scores while his team-mate Connor Smith notched 29 and Jolly Taxpayer B’s Steve Houghton was third with 28.

Froddington Arms may have won division C but they weren’t the biggest scorers as their 119 tons paled in comparison to Portland Arms 152. Both teams had three maximums.

A tally of 29 ton-plusses made George & Dragon’s Shane Plummer the best individual performer, with Portland’s Keith Mayne in second with 24 and Robert Scott’s 22 tons for Tap puts him third.

Division D winners Stag B comfortably claimed the tons crown with 128 three-figure scores including two 180s.

Clarence Garden were their nearest rivals with 100 tons.

Stag’s Dave Smith registered 25 tons, while Michael Chandler, of Eldon Arms, hit 23 and two maximums and Stag’s Nick Hatherley notched 22.

Meanwhile in the Bishop’s Waltham & District League, Danny Hudson fired in a maximum and 122 game-shot to help Linden Tree A reach the final of the Les White Fours.

Their opponents will be Acorn A after they also progressed from the preliminary rounds.

In the South-Hants Men’s Super League, Portsmouth moved two points clear at the top of the table as they beat second-placed Forton 6-3.

Steve Musson notched a 12-darter and 136 check-out for Portsmouth.

Havant’s Paul Booker averaged 26.61.

But he couldn’t prevent them losing 6-3 to Borough.

Copnor leapfrogged Gosport after beating them 5-4.
