Mr Pickwick A made a winning start to the Portsmouth Men’s Summer League division A season with a 5-4 triumph over Rose in June B.

Vic Smith opened proceedings only for Carl Williams to pull Rose level.

Pickwick moved ahead again with an 18-dart leg from Neil Hewson but once more their rivals restored parity with Michael Neat on the mark.

Phil Rudder and Charlie Linkhorn – the latter notching a 16-darter – then put Pickwick 4-2 up.

And despite Ian Pearce pulling a set back for Rose, they sealed victory courtesy of John Wing who hit a 180.

Wing’s opponent Lee Smith also hit a maximum.

Rose’s Shane Williams took the last set as a consolation, throwing an 18-dart leg in the process.

Froddington Arms led from the start of their division B opener against Star & Garter before emerging 6-3 victors.

Richard Baker – with a 109 game-shot – Daniel Browne, Kevin Hayes and Dave Lock propelled them into a 4-0 lead before Stephen Browne got Star off the mark.

Louis Arnell then bagged the points for Froddington before Dave Gisby and Paul Miller took consolations for Star and Liam Emery added a sixth for the winners.

Old House at Home C triumphed 5-4 over Druids Arms A in division C.

Keith Horn gave Druids the lead only for Howard Price and Mark Brooks Snr to move Old House ahead.

Connor Smith levelled the scores but it was to no avail as Matt Lock, Jason Appleton and Shane Bailey guaranteed Old House the win.

Neil Hallett and Brett Smith took the remaining ties for Druids to make the scoreline more respectable.

Stag B took advantage of a depleted Clarence Gardens side to claim a 5-4 win in division D.

Dave Smith took the opener before Clarence moved ahead through Donal Cronin and Dan Shambrook.

Stag’s Tom Jeffery made it 2-2 but Tony Bell edged their rivals ahead once more.

Mick Jukes squared the match once more but it was Clarence who went 4-3 up thanks to Ken Brown.

Mark Cunningham won the penultimate tie for Stag – and it was enough to give them the match as the last leg was a walkover for Michael Barnes.

Dave Paul (Old House at Home B) threw a 13-dart leg, while Dean Jones (Newcome Arms A) and Sam Head (Admiral Drake B) both enjoyed 15 and 18-darters. Jones also checked out on 125.

Sam Palmer (Shearer Arms) notched a 15-dart effort, Lee Smith (Phoenix North End B) recorded a pair of 16-dart legs and Danny Smith (Admiral Drake B) finished legs in 16 and 18. Tim Hope (Phoenix North End B), Shaun O’Donovan, Liam Jafkins, Lee O’Donovan (all Mr Pickwick B), Jon Bramble and Charlie Jackson (both Admiral Drake B) all had 18-dart legs, with Lee O’Donovan scoring 180.

Bill Sturgess, Lester Miles (both Admiral Drake B), John Madgwick Jnr (Lord Chichester B), Chris Jafkins (Mr Pickwick B), Dean Barlow (Graham Arms B), Les Browne (George & Dragon), Mark Brooks Jnr (Old House at Home C), Jim Adams (Artillery Arms) and Steve Filby (Newcome Arms A) all fired in maximums.
