Determined Portsmouth Dodgers suffered a blow as they lost 13-6 to high-flying Itchen Knicks.
The Dodgers fought hard but it wasn’t enough to get the win they needed from their final game.
It means their prospects of staying in Solent Softball League division one are dependent on other teams.
The Knicks look likely to finish in second place.
Safe hitting from Lucy Gates, and a good display from guest player Johnny Heather, made sure the Knicks stayed in front from the first inning.
Southsea Sharks knew a win was a must if they were to avoid the drop but it wasn’t to be for them against The Killa Whales.
It was a tight match, with only one run in it until the fifth inning.
The Whales then knocked in three runs to lead 7-3.
Sharks tried to pull themselves back into the game and in the final inning scored two runs.
But they were unable to get back on terms.
The Whales wrapped up a 7-5 success.
Hursley Hurricanes breezed to victory against Southsea Zombies and look set to win promotion as champions of division two.
With their eighth win in a row, the Hurricanes can only lose the title if they fail to win their last two games, and the Chichester Falcons win their remaining five games.
The Hurricanes started as they have done in every game this season, fast and hard, hitting runs in and fielding strongly.
Having only conceded 45 runs in eight games, the Hurricanes defence has been the best in the league.
They recorded an 18-3 success.
n The Solent Softball League will be appearing for the first time this year at the Southsea Show.
There will be a batting cage to give people a chance to have a go and see what the game is all about.
