The Royals, winless in their three previous outings, proved too hot to handle for their visitors as Steve Ramsey struck a double to get Graham Rix’s side back on track.

Tony Easter and fit-again Alex Baldachinno were also on target on a night to remember for the home side.

Elsewhere, Moneyfields advanced through to the next round of the Russell Cotes Cup after overcoming Lymington Town in a penalty shootout at Dover Road.

It was all too easy for Baffins Milton Rovers in their Wessex League Cup replay tie at Alton, however, as they put nine past the stunned hosts without reply.

Ryan Pennery top scored for the free-scoring visitors with four goals to his name.
