HE MAY play for Pompey’s biggest rivals, but Rickie Lambert was still warmly received when he dropped in to watch a prestigious Royal Navy football match.
The Southampton and England striker was among the crowd at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth as a guest at the final of the navy’s regional football tournament. The visit was organised by the British Forces Foundation, a charity which stages events to boost the morale of servicemen and women.
Lieutenant Fraser Quirke, of HMS Temeraire, said: ‘The visit was hugely appreciated by players and officials. Rickie recognised the significant sacrifices that servicemen and women make in the service of their country.’
