If this is the future at Fratton Park, no wonder Pompey are so keen to place an emphasis on youth.

Two of the Blues’ up-and-coming talents grabbed hat-tricks to guide their respective sides to Portsmouth schools’ cup glory last night.

Alfie Stanley, who is currently part of Pompey’s youth set-up, hit a treble as Lyndhurst Junior School pipped Langstone 3-2 in a thrilling Under-11 Supporters Cup final.

And another youngster on the Blues’ books, Calvin Davies, fired in all three goals to guide Mayfield School to a 3-1 success over Miltoncross in the Under-15 News Trophy.

The evening’s first showpiece provided plenty of drama as Langstone Junior School went into the break a goal ahead courtesy of Freddy Nancarrow’s opener.

Stanley hit a double, however, to give Lyndhurst the advantage, only for their opponents to net again and set up a tense finale.

With extra-time looming, Stanley then found the back of the net again to spark joyous scenes and earn the silverware for Lyndhurst.

There was plenty of action, too, in the Under-15 News Trophy final as midfielder Davies put Mayfield into the lead, only for Miltoncross to level when Callum Courtney was put clean through and kept his cool to slot past James Elliott.

It wasn’t long before Mayfield were back ahead, though, Davies showing his composure when he was played in to slip a shot under keeper Lewis Fisher from a tight angle.

The talent then completed his hat-trick early in the second half as Mayfield held on comfortably to see skipper Elliot Turnbull lift the silverware.
