Hawks ladies toast treble

Hawks ladies ended a memorable season with a 2-0 win over Southampton Saints to secure the league cup at Cams Alders.

The success ensured they added the league cup to the Pompey FA Cup and the league title.

They only narrowly missed out on a quadruple going down to Pompey in the Hampshire FA Women's Challenge Cup final.

The Southern Region Women's League champions enjoyed a fourth win over their rivals from Southampton in a match fought out in tough conditions.

Swirling wind and rain made it impossible for the Hawks to exhibit their favoured passing game.

Instead they had to grind out the victory with second-half goals from Lizzie Laws and Jenna Dunster.

Hawks had to wait until deep into the second half to break down Saints when Laws swung in a corner which was fumbled by the keeper and nestled in the net.

Defender Dunster made it 2-0 when she headed home a Charley Wilson corner.

Keeper Erin Davis, who stepped in for the injured Sadie Blakely, made a crucial first-half save to deny Saints' Krystal Whyte.

Hawks ladies: Erin Davis, Charlotte Brown, Jenna Dunster, Laura Oakes, Lizzie Laws, Chantelle Hedge, Jodie Prince, Jo Lockton, Chelsea Owton (Jenna Fowlie), Charley Wilson, Lisa Cooper (Sam Stone).
