Moneys set sights on Vase visit to Wembley

Dave Carter’s side reached the fourth round last season and because of that received a bye in the earlier rounds.

Carter believes it isn’t beyond his side to do better again and even go all the way to the final.

‘If we get through this round we are only five games away from Wembley,’ said Carter.

‘Playing in a final at Wembley is every player and manager’s dream at our level.

‘Of the approximately 15 leagues involved in the Vase we are at the highest level.

‘We have to be one of the top 10 sides left in it and that gives us a great chance.

‘I feel there is nothing wrong in aiming high and we will be doing our utmost to get as far as we can.

‘We are top of our league and playing with confidence.

‘Thatcham who play at the same level as us are also top of their Hellenic League, so we know it will be tough.’

Moneyfields have a three-point lead at the top of the Wessex League premier division and are in good form.

They have been boosted by the return of Steve Hutchings from suspension, who has scored four goals in his two games since coming back.

Hutchings is an influential player for the home side having a big impact both on and off the pitch.

He could easily be playing at a much higher level and there are no question marks about his ability.

His disciplinary record over the years, however, has been poor and it is his temperament that is questionable.

When he is on song and more importantly out on the pitch he can be a match-winner.

Carter recognises after what happened in the competition last season that good discipline is vital.

‘We lost to Bristol Manor Farm last season after having three players sent off,’ said Carter.

‘They went on I believe to the semi-finals.

‘Frustratingly we were still the better team even after we had our first player sent off.

‘This is a big game and with a big crowd expected the occasion will be hyped up.

‘We have to make sure we keep our heads and keep a full complement of players on the pitch.’

Midfielder Lewis Stockford is unavailable but the hosts include young striker Harry Tumber in their squad.

The 18-year-old prospect is the top goalscorer in the under-18 youth league this season and will be hoping to make his mark on the tie.
