Carter fires warning to shambolic Deans

Dave Carter is determined to breathe new life into Horndean.

And if he has to recruit new players to do so, he will.

The struggling Deans host Alresford Town in a crucial Wessex League premier division clash tomorrow (3pm).

In the wake of a shambolic 4-1 midweek defeat at the hands of Hamworthy United, Carter compared the dressing room to a ‘morgue’.

Now the Five Heads Park boss is keen to get the survival bid back on track.

And he warned his current squad, he will do it with or without them.

‘It was a complete shambles,’ he said.

‘In the dressing room afterwards it was like a morgue.

‘We just weren’t good enough.

‘We lost our shape, gave the ball away in wrong areas and in the end ran out of ideas.

‘Once we fell behind our heads went down.

‘If the players are not prepared to put themselves about and work hard then I will bring in those who will.

‘We worked hard last season to get into the premier division and the last thing we want to do is throw that all away.

‘These are a must three points for us.’

Carter looks set to ring the changes for the relegation battle.

Alex Miroy, Nathan Paxton and Gary Austin could be in line for a recall to the starting line-up.

Horndean: Howard, Smith, Chapman, Fennemore, Martin, Spurway, Hayes, Miroy, Paxton, Austin, Fennelon, Bell, McKie, Blackmore, Perkins, Spicer

n Hayling United can leapfrog over Horndean with a victory over visitors Christchurch at Hayling College (3pm).

The Humbugs scorched to a stunning 5-2 win at Blackfield & Langley in midweek, with debut-making Alex Easton bagging a hat-trick.

‘The win and performance has given us all the belief that we can stay in this league,’ said assistant manager Gavin Keogh.

‘It gives us a chance, although we know Christchurch will present a tough proposition.

‘But we now have the pace in our side to surprise them.’

Lenny Burney and Sean Thurgood are suspended but the home side welcome back Aaron Wilson and Jack Salter-Vaile.

Hayling United: Patilla, Watt, Thornton, Gadd, Hayward, Kinchen, Salter-Vaile, Black, Baker, Tigwell, Easton, Kendall, Carter, Wilson, Fisher

n Fareham aim to return to winning ways as they entertain Blackfield & Langley at Cams Alders (3pm).

The Reds suffered their first defeat of the year at Lymington last weekend.

But manager Matt Parr is backing them to bounce back.

‘We have to make sure that it is only a blip,’ said the boss.

‘Our aim is not to lose too many more games this season.

‘If I’d had this squad since the start of the season, I’m convinced we would be a top-four side.’

Ollie Warren and Dave Birmingham are ruled out by suspension.

Fareham Town: Douglas, Smith, Cuthbert, Jones, Doswell, Boud, Stevens, Pitman, Burt, Cotton, Tambling, Tattersall, Darke S, Winzar, Martin

n Moneyfields’ trip to Bournemouth Poppies has been postponed as the home side are in FA Vase action.
