Horndean boss Dave Carter is hoping new striker Chemal Fenelon can help fire them away from the Wessex League premier division drop zone as they host Hamworthy United at Five Heads Park (3pm).

A defeat at the hands of Newport IOW and a surprise win for relegation rivals Laverstock & Ford at Romsey in midweek turned up the pressure on the Deans.

Carter accepts his team, who have lost seven games on the bounce, need to turn their fortunes around to preserve their top-flight status.

The main problem has been their failure to convert a host of chances and Carter views powerful striker Fenelon as a possible solution.

Fenelon had been playing at Chichester City United but appeared as a spectator at the Hawks game last weekend.

Carter heard he might be available and moved quickly before putting him straight into the starting line-up against Newport.

‘The player has just moved back into the area and could be a great signing for us,’ said the boss.

‘It is a case of getting him fully fit because he did well for the first hour on Tuesday but was blowing a bit by then.

‘We need three points badly and have to start taking our chances. Ham-worthy shipped seven goals against Fareham last week and are having a tough time but we musn’t go into it thinking it will be easy.’

Carter also has Torr Spicer and Nathan Paxton back fit but Dan Hayes is suspended.

Horndean: Howard, Smith, Parkin, Shepherd, Chapman, Bell, Fennemore, Spurway, McKie, Paxton, Fenelon, Spicer, Austin, Luff, Blackmore

n Hayling United travel to Laverstock & Ford looking to burst their bubble.

‘Their midweek win turned the screw on us a little at the bottom,’ said Humbugs manager Steve Poulton.

‘If we beat them it will put us level on points with a game in hand and within touching distance of Horndean.

‘Its all about confidence with us but we feel we can go up their and beat them.’

Hayling United: Patilla, Watts, Baker, Thornton, Hayward, Kinchem, Black, Thurgood, Salter-Vaile, Tigwell, Burney, Gadd, Carter, Fisher, Etop-inah

n Moneyfields cross the Solent to take on Newport IOW at St Georges Park aiming to chalk up an 11th consecutive win.

The club consolidated fourth place with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Totton & Eling in midweek.

Manager Miles Rutherford, however, wasn’t happy with the performance.

He said: ‘It was just one game but I want us to return to the standards we set before.’

The Moneys boss also wants to see greater discipline from his men.

They have ended the past three games with 10 men and Rutherford is keen for them to learn from their mistakes.

He said: ‘We’ve got to realise because we are doing so well, other teams want to knock us off our pedestal.’

Moneyfields: Hook, Evans, Gauntlett, Lee, Middleton, Rackley, Slater, Bailey, Asajile, Hutchings, Wain, Davis, Gregory, N’Doye

n Fareham Town’s unbeaten start to the new year will be put under scrutiny as they visit fellow mid-table side Alton Town.

The Reds thumped seven past Hamworthy last weekend.

And Matt Parr’s side will be confident they can keep their good run going.

Fareham Town: Douglas, Boud, Jones, Doswell, Birmingham, Stevens, Lewis, Cuthbert, Cotton, Tambling, Dark, Martin, Windsor, Vickers, Redmond
