Hawks suffer Chelmsford defeat
Scott Jones scored deep into injury time
The Hawks fell to a 3-1 defeat in the wind and the rain against fourth-placed Chelmsford City at Melbourne Park today.
Shaun Gale’s side never looked like winning this game – particularly when Jordan Miller gave the home side the lead in the 20th minute.
Ricky Modeste added a second for the home side in the second half, before Cliff Akurang added a third in the dying minutes.
Scot Jones’ goal deep into injury time, however, was nothing more than a consolation, with the Hawks well beaten.
In the Southern League division one south & west, Gosport needed a 92nd-minute equaliser from Justin Bennett to snatch an unlikely draw at Taunton.
The hosts sailed into a 2-0 lead and looked set for three valuable league points.
Ross Langworthy’s goal late on appeared nothing more than a consolation effort – but Bennett had other ideas, slotting home late on to earn Alex Pike’s side a valuable point.
Goals from Steve Harper. Ashley Robinson (2), Osa Obamwonyi, Ben Johnson, Terry Dodd and Carl Wilson-Dennis earned top-of-the-table Bognor a 6-1 win against Wlaton Casuals.
Meanwhile, in the Wessex League premier division, both Fareham and Horndean fired blanks in their respective games.
Fareham drew 0-0 with Blackford & Langley, while the Deans were 2-0 losers against Alresford at Five Heads Park.
