Local football fixtures fall foul to the weather

Local football was counting the cost of the weather today, with the entire non-league programme falling victim to the icy conditions.
With temperatures on the south coast plummeting to a frosty minus eight degrees in some parts, it was little wonder clubs in the area decided to follow Pompey’s lead and cancel their matches.
Michael Appleton’s Blues announced that their Championship fixture with Hull would be called off after an early morning pitch inspection.
And that decision was quickly followed by the powers that be at Bromley, where Shaun Gale’s Hawks were due to play in the Blue Square Bet South.
In the Southern League division one south and west, Gosport Borough’s home game against Abingdon United was called off early to save the visitors travelling.
Meanwhile, all the locals teams involved in the Wessex League had a rare day off.
In the premier division, Horndean v Hamworthy, Laverstock & Ford v Hayling United, Newport IOW v Moneyfields and Alton Town v Fareham all fell foul of the wintery weather.
Bognor’s Ryman League game with Eastbourne Borough was also cancelled, while all kids and parks football in the area followed suit.
