The Hawks’ clash with Basingstoke Town has been postponed – and the freezing weather conditions have put pay to a string of other non-league matches.
A frozen pitch at Westleigh Park saw the Hawks’ scheduled match in Blue Square Bet South called off this morning.
The club are hoping to announce a midweek friendly to make up for their lack of playing time.
Meanwhile, the Wessex League programme suffered again, with Hayling United’s home clash against Totton & Eling being postponed, as is Horndean’s game at Bemerton Heath Harlequins and Petersfield Town v Cowes Sports and Team Solent v AFC Portchester in division one.
Moneyfields’ match at home to Alton Town is also off but Fareham v Lymington Town at Cams Alders and Bognor v Merstham in Ryman division one will go ahead as planned.
‘Our pitch at the College Ground was 70-per-cent playable but, unfortunately, both goalmouths were solid with frost and the inspecting referee had no other option than to call the match off,’ said Hayling boss Steve Poulton.
Pompey Academy’s scheduled match against Charlton at Eastleigh was also postponed because of a frozen pitch.
