Reds fail to boost below-Parr boss

FAREHAM TOWN were unable to provide a tonic for flu-victim boss Matt Parr as they slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Lymington Town.
Parr missed the trip to the New Forest but would not have enjoyed the way his side surrendered a one-goal lead to lose the Wessex League premier division clash.
Rob Tambling had given the Reds the lead, and they dominated up to the hour mark before Jack Iggleston and Dan Fox scored to earn their side an unlikely 2-1 victory.
‘Poor defending and missing a hatful of chances has cost us three points,’ said Fareham assistant manager Shaun Coles.
‘From our point of view, it was a match we should have won but missed so many chances that it cost us in the end.
‘It is disappointing but something that can be dealt with in-house on the training ground.
‘Okay, it didn’t help that we haven’t played for a couple of weeks because of the weather but that’s no excuse.’
Fareham had only Tambling’s far-post finish to show for their dominance.
Lymington keeper Stuart Williamson denied the visitors further goals with quality saves from Jim Cuthbert and Sam Doswell.
Even so, there looked to be no way back for Lymington, until Fareham’s defence took for granted that Iggleston had run into an offside position – when clearly he hadn’t.
And Reds keeper Adam Redman, hardly troubled up to that point, was forced to retrieve the ball from the back of his net.
Almost before Fareham regained their composure, Redman was beaten again.
His defence went missing and Fox was given time and space to blast home the winner.
Fareham pushed forward in search of a point but Louie Martin’s superb far-post cross was headed wide by Tambling.
Coles felt his side undid all their good work for much of the contest, with their late capitulation.
He said: ‘The bottom line is that we travelled to Lymington confident of extending our winning run.
‘It didn’t happen, not that they were better than us, but because we let ourselves down late in the match.’
