Two Justin Bennett goals set Gosport Borough on their way to an excellent 3-1 Vanarama Conference South derby win over the Hawks at Privett Park.

Striker Bennett showed what a clinical finisher he is with goals on 12 and 26 minutes to give Alex Pike’s side a 2-0 lead.

Matt Paterson squandered a glorious opening, shooting wide with just goalkeeper Ryan Young to beat.

Borough were good value for their lead, though, despite Scott Donnelly rattling the crossbar for the Hawks with a superb free-kick before the break.

The visitors reduced the deficit eight minutes from time when Nic Ciardini’s driven cross from the left deflected off a defender and past Nathan Ashmore in the home goal.

It made for a tense finale but Lee Wort killed the game off with Borough’s third goal deep into stoppage-time.
