The freezing weather has put paid to local sporting fixtures scheduled for today.

As expected following the recent snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, a string of football matches have been called off.

The Hawks’ Blue Square Bet South game with Billericay has been postponed despite staff and fans’ best efforts to get the Westleigh Park pitch playable this morning.

The Wessex League premier division games of AFC Portchester v Lymington Town, Bournemouth v Moneyfields, Fareham v Fawley and Alresford Town v Hayling have been hit.

And Gosport’s Southern League premier division match at St Albans has also bitten the dust.

In rugby union, the scheduled matches of Portsmouth v Effingham & Leatherhead, Dover v Havant and Gosport & Fareham v Cobham will not take place because of frozen pitches.

Gosport Hockey Club’s mini-tournament at St Vincent College on Sunday has also been postponed.

But there has been good news with the Stubbington 10k, with organisers for the popular race announcing tomorrow’s event, which starts at 10am, will take place as planned.
