Steve Claridge was the debut hero for Gosport Borough this afternoon, as the 45-year-old scored the goal that took his new side into the next round of the FA Trophy.

The former Pompey striker finished superbly in the first-half, and that proved the difference as Alex Pike’s men overcame local rivals Sholing.

Meanwhile, Fareham Town crashed out of the FA Vase, losing 3-0 at Downton.

In the Ryman League, Bognor fought back from two goals behind to grab a point against Whitstable Town.

And Moneyfields tasted Wessex League defeat – losing 2-1 at home to Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
