Gosport Borough’s hopes of causing a Skrill South upset came to nothing as they went down to a 2-1 loss at high-flying Eastleigh.
In truth, it was a flattering scoreline for Borough against an Eastleigh side who are pushing for promotion this season and showed no signs of slipping up against their Hampshire neighbours.
Craig McAllister put the Spitfires in front early in the contest, and although Danny Smith rattled the crossbar with a shot for Borough, Ben Strevens doubled their lead midway through the second half.
Eastleigh wasted a number of number of goalscoring opportunities that then would have put the game to bed.
And although substitute Dan Woodward pulled one back for Borough after a defensive mix-up, they were unable to mount a late recovery as they remain deep in relegation trouble.
Hawks’ clash with Staines Town was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
